Scappoose

Scappoose, a city of about 6,000, is nestled at the foot of forested hills on a plain overlooking the Columbia River just 19 miles outside of Portland. Rich in natural resources, early settlers made their living as loggers, brickmakers, blacksmiths, shingle millers and dairy farmers. In 1921 the community adopted its first charter and became the City of Scappoose.

VIBE AND STYLE

Scappoose is a charming, country town filled with kind-hearted people. It has an excellent school system, active community calendar and recreational amenities, making it a very desirable place to live. This area offers a wide range of home styles including cottage, craftsman, contemporary, ranch, traditional, custom, condos, townhouses and floating homes. Many of the expansive estates are known for their unparalleled views of the Cascades.

LOCAL SCENE

Relaxation is the key attraction, where laid-back residents enjoy spending time with family and friends. The Scappoose Farmers’ Market is a popular summertime event, held every Saturday starting mid-June through September on 2nd Street and Heritage Park. The many vendors provide residents with local produce, goods and live music. With rural surroundings, outdoor enthusiasts have year-round activities with access to nearby lakes and the Columbia River. Residents also have the easy commute of about thirty minutes to enjoy the urban amenities of Portland.

OUTDOOR SANCTUARY

Lots of fun outdoor activities like kayaking, boating, fishing, biking, hiking and golf are all within a stone’s throw and one of the greatest benefits of living in this charming town. The J.J. Collins Marine Park is a 23-acre island with outstanding bird-watching, nature trails, picnic tables and campsites. If you’re up for some serious exercise, the 17-mile Crown Zellerbach Trail connecting to the city of Vernonia, accommodates walking, jogging, biking and horseback riding.
